Iowa Man Violently Murders Friend After Argument Over Mayonnaise

An Iowan man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a friend he hit several times with a pickup truck after an argument over mayonnaise. Read more about this publication New York Post.

Christopher Erlbacher, 29, now 29, used his truck to run over Caleb Solberg, 30, outside a cafe in the small town of Pisgah, Iowa on December 17, 2020. Erlbacher hit his friend, and then ran over him several more times.

The two had been drinking at a bar with another person before the incident in nearby Moorhead, but that all changed when Erlbacher added mayonnaise to Solberg's food, which angered Solberg and provoked a fight.

Enraged, Erlbacher called Solberg's half-brother, Craig Pryor, on the way to the cafe, threatening to set fire to Solberg's house and shoot him. Pryor later arrived at Dave's Old Home in Pisgah, where another confrontation was brewing.

Erlbacher eventually crashed his truck into Pryor's truck and then rammed Solberg.

“Erlbacher's first blow to Solberg didn't kill him. You could hear him screaming,” District Judge Greg Stinsland wrote in the verdict. “Instead of just driving away, Erlbacher drove down the street, turned around and came back to ram Solberg again. To make sure he did what he set out to do, Erlbacher drove the pickup truck over Solberg one more time.”

Erlbacher was found guilty after a trial in December 2021 and sentenced to life in prison.
