Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova received the Ronald Reagan Freedom Medal for Zelensky, which was presented by Frederick Ryan, head of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.
Ryan stressed that this high award recognizes the leadership of the President of Ukraine and the resilient spirit of millions of Ukrainians who stand up for their right to choose their own future and inspire the entire civilized world to fight for the values of freedom and democracy to which Reagan dedicated his life.
The head of the fund noted that today the Kremlin regime is trying to restore the ruins of the Soviet empire by starting a brutal and bloody war in the center of Europe. Just like more than three decades ago, the “evil empire” has no chance of existing.

Ryan quoted Reagan's famous words: “Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, no weapon in the world's arsenal is as powerful as the will and moral courage of free men and women. This is a weapon that our opponents in the modern world do not have.”
The Medal of Freedom award was established by the Ronald Reagan Foundation in 1992. It is awarded to outstanding world figures for “making significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of freedom in the world.”
During the entire existence of the award, only 10 people became its laureates, including Lech Walesa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Colin Pavel, Margaret Thatcher, George W. Bush, Yitzhak Rabin, Natan Sharansky.
