Zelensky wants to conduct a survey of Ukrainians on the achievement of peace agreements with Russia

The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, has previously declared a desire to hold a referendum on reaching a peace agreement with the Russian Federation. However, experts began to criticize this idea, since Ukraine does not have a law on referendum. Therefore, on May 23, the head of Ukraine clarified the details of his idea, noting that the referendum proposed by him would not have a legislative initiative is only a way to find out the opinion of the society.

He stated this during a meeting with public activists, which took place in the Presidential Administration. Among the participants of the meeting were volunteers and former military, the report said on Online President.

“We must hear every person. This is not a legislative referendum, but an informational one: citizens, what do you think? This is a normal conversation with people,” Zelensky said.

The President stressed that he is committed to openness in the discussion of important issues for the country and does not want to make decisions behind closed doors, as was done before.

The meeting participants agreed that it would be advisable to call this proposal not a referendum, but a poll or dialogue with the public.
