'Infecting people with measles': in New York, an Uber driver attacked a Jewish passenger

In New York, the Uber driver made an unpleasant remark about measles passenger-Jew.

When a woman got into a taxi in a Hasidic district of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, the driver attacked her with accusations: “You are one of those who infect people with measles,” adding a swear word to the phrase.

According to the report, a woman who talked to her husband on a cell phone when she got into the car kept him on the line for the whole trip. She feared for her safety, so she was in touch with him.

Yossi Gestetner of the Orthodox Jewish Council on Public Relations wrote about this incident on Twitter, noting in a post Uber.

The company answered 10 minutes later, leaving the following comment: “We take this very seriously. Please send us information with your email address, telephone number and the place where this particular incident occurred, so that we can learn everything as soon as possible. ”

The woman also filed a formal complaint through the Uber app. She said that she, her husband and children are vaccinated against measles.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also commented on the post on Twitter.

“You have rights, and your city is a pillar. Thank you @NYCTaxi for your quick action to investigate this incident. There is no place for anti-Semitism in this city,” he wrote.

New York is the epicenter of measles (most of the 900 cases) registered in the United States this year, with outbreaks in Orthodox Jewish communities in Brooklyn and Rockland County. These outbreaks prompted health officials to warn 2550 state licensed camps about the need for increased attention and control to vaccinate vacationing children.

In April, Mayor Bill de Blasio declared an emergency in public health due to the Williamsburg outbreak and prescribed compulsory vaccinations.
