An era has ended: the legendary artist Vakhtang Kikabidze has died
On January 15, Georgian actor and singer Vakhtang Kikabidze passed away. He was 84 years old. As writes with the BBC, information and death have already been confirmed by relatives of the artist.

Vakhtang Kikabidze was born in Tbilisi in the summer of 1938. His father, Konstantin Kikabidze, worked as a journalist, his mother, Manana Bagrationi, was a professional singer.
After graduating from school, Vakhtang Konstantinovich entered Tbilisi State University. But he dropped out of school in his second year and in 1959 became an artist of the Tbilisi Philharmonic. Later, he entered the Tbilisi State Institute of Foreign Languages, but also did not finish it.
Jack of all trades
In 1966, Vakhtang Kikabidze made his first film appearance. He made his debut in the musical comedy directed by Nikolai Sanishvili "Meeting in the Mountains". Three years later, director Georgy Danelia invited Kikabidze to play the lead role of a young doctor, Benjamin Glonti, in his tragicomedy “Don't Cry!”
During his career, the artist has played dozens of roles in Soviet and Georgian cinema. One of the most famous roles of Kikabidze is Valiko Mizandari in Mimino.
He is also known for his roles in the films “Do not Cry!”, “Melodies of the Veriysky Quarter”, “TASS is authorized to declare ...”.
Kikabidze also directed and wrote scripts. In 1981, he directed the comedy “Be Healthy, Dear!”, based on his script, which won the Grand Prix at the Gabrovo Festival in 1983. In 1985, Kikabidze shot the film "A Man and All the Rest", where he played the main role.
In total, there are more than 20 paintings in Kikabidze's filmography.

Kikabidze was also known as a pop singer. Since 1967, for a long time, he was a soloist of the Orera ensemble, and later gave solo concerts.
In 1978 he became a laureate of the USSR State Prize. In 1980 - People's Artist of Georgia, in 2013 - Honored Artist of Ukraine.
Integrity and steel character
After the Russian attack on Georgia in August 2008, the artist stopped coming to Russia. In 2022, he spoke out condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On October 31, 2020, Kikabidze became a member of the Georgian Parliament from the electoral bloc “United National Movement - United Opposition “Strength in Unity” of Mikheil Saakashvili. He was a member of the parliamentary committee on culture.
