What Americans will have to pay more in 2019
While 2018 was a good year for many - with positive consumer sentiment around the world, plenty of jobs and record stock market gains - it's never possible to know in advance what the next year will bring. But one thing is certain: Everyday expenses, from cable TV fees to the supermarket checkout bill, will rise.
A list of things that will rise in price next year, offers Fox Business.
1) Products
The first area of expenditure that the price increase will affect is nutrition. Major food giants, such as Mondelez, Hershey Co., Nestle SA, Unilever and Coca-Cola Co., announced plans to raise prices in the 2019 year, designed to offset rising production costs and ingredients. Prices are expected to rise by 1-2%. However, for some products, such as pork and some other meats, fats and oils, processed fruits and sweets, prices may still fall.
2) Postage Stamps / Mail Services
In October, the United States Postal Service filed a notice to the Postal Regulatory Commission about possible series of price increases, which will come into effect on January 27, 2019. The Commission approved the changes. The increase will cover prices for Priority Mail Express, which will increase by 3,9%, Priority Mail by 5,9%, and mail delivery of the first class will cost more by 10%. Moreover, the price of the “Forever” brand will be increased by 5 cents to 55 cents, that is, by 10%.
3) Medicare
In October, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released their 2019 premiums and deductibles and co-insurance coverage for Medicare Part A and Part B. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $ 135,50 per 2019, an increase of $ 1,50 per year. However, approximately 2 million Medicare beneficiaries (about 3,5%) will pay less than the full standard Part B premium. Medicare Part A inpatient hospital deductibles will also increase by $ 24 next year.
4) Prescription drugs
Prescription drug prices are expected to rise 2019% in 4,92, according to researchers from healthcare quality improvement company Vizient. In a statement, Dan Kistner, senior vice president of Pharmacy Solutions for Vizient, pointed to "the continued growth of specialty pharmacy products as a share of total spending" and "the critical importance of ongoing, sustained generic and biosimilar competition in curbing overall price increases."
5) Trips
Travel prices are expected to rise sharply in 2019, with hotels rising 3,7% and airfares rising 2,6%, driven by both a growing global economy and rising oil prices, according to Global Travel Forecast.
6) Comcast Services
In November, Comcast announced that starting January 1, 2019, cable, phone and internet customers will begin receiving bills that average 3,3% more. The increase in tariffs is mainly due to the rising costs of program work. “While we are trying to reduce costs, price changes are necessary for a number of reasons, including the ever-increasing costs associated with customer demand, especially for broadcasting and sports programming, which are the main drivers of price increases,” said Jennifer Bilotta, regional vice president of Comcast, in a statement.
