Khodorkovsky will ask for political asylum in Britain
Former head of the Russian Yukos company, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, may seek political asylum in the UK.
This was the former richest man in Russia, said in an interview with the BBC.
“I am definitely considering the possibility of asking for asylum in the UK,” Khodorkovsky said.
In his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin sees him as a serious threat - economic and political.
“Putin sees me as a threat. From an economic point of view - due to the possible seizure of Russia’s foreign assets, and from a political point of view, as a person who is potentially able to help democratic candidates in the 2016 elections [to the State Duma],” he noted.
When asked whether he feared for his life in the light of the frequent death of opposition Russian politicians, Khodorkovsky replied that there really was something to fear, and that is why he feels safer in London.
“The history of the deaths of opponents of this regime is impressive... but I was in prison for 10 years, I could have been killed any day, easily. I feel much safer in London than in those years,” he replied.
As the “Forum” wrote, Khodorkovsky was arrested in absentia in Russia on suspicion of organizing several murders.
