Following Depardieu and Seagal: actress Natalia Oreiro applied for Russian citizenship

The Latin American singer and actress Natalia Oreiro has applied for Russian citizenship.

“Once I went to the embassy (of Russia in Argentina - TASS note) on various issues. I travel so much and have so many connections with Russia that I was asked if I would like to make it official. I said it would be an honor for me. So I filled out a bunch of paperwork that they asked me to do, and it’s pending,” Oreiro said.

Natalia recalled that it all started with a joke made a year ago in the Channel One program “Evening Urgant”.

“I was on Ivan Urgant’s program, and he told me that I was the most Russian among foreigners. I told him that I had no doubts. And I said that Putin should give me citizenship. I said this as a joke, and not as a request for this to happen, but of course, I would really like to receive Russian citizenship,” she emphasized.

Oreiro said that Russian fans often give her souvenir passports.

“Today I have a lot of Russian passports that were given to me by fans, about 15. But they are not real,” the singer said.

Natalia Oreiro was born on May 19, 1977 in the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. At the age of 16, the young actress moved to Argentina, where her career took off. At the turn of the 2000s, Oreiro became known throughout the world thanks to the Argentine television series “Wild Angel”, where she played the role of Milagros. She combines her acting career with the stage and has released four studio records.

Oreiro is the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in the Rio de La Plata region.

In 2001, Oreiro first visited Russia, with which, according to her, she immediately felt a spiritual connection.

“I felt very close to these people, their culture and history. The history of Russia is a very powerful, big story, full of bravery, courage, and endurance. I have always been fascinated not only by how the pain of war is overcome, but also by its manifestation in art. I am a fan of great Russian writers and poets,” she emphasized.

Since then, the singer has been touring Russia almost every year, where she has formed a huge fan club. Fans call her “our Natasha” for her sincerity in creativity and simplicity in communicating with them. Oreiro is learning Russian, has performed Russian-language versions of her world hits, and also recorded the song “United By Love” in three languages ​​(English, Spanish and Russian) for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory in 2020, the singer performed “We need one victory” (“Our Tenth Airborne Battalion”) by Bulat Okudzhava.
