Shopping time: the best sales and up to 80% off Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one of the best times of the year for sales, as retailers share exciting deals on everything from mattresses and technology to spring clothing, outdoor furniture and more, writes Silive.

This year's Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 31st, and retailers will be offering deals both online and in person as some neighborhoods are allowing businesses to return to normal during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Julie Ramhold, a shopping expert, said she recommends clarifying the rules and restrictions at your local store if you plan to shop in person this year. When in doubt, you can always shop online.
You also don't have to wait a long three-day weekend to take advantage of the Memorial Day sales.

Some stores often start their holiday events about two weeks before Memorial Day, which means that the prices of goods may fall right now. But you should note that most of the sales are likely to be closer to the holiday itself, Ramhold said.

Here are the details on what sales can be expected this year.

Outdoor furniture

This is a good time to shop and improve your outdoor space. Look for home and garden deals in stores such as Home Depot и Lowe's - be it furniture or household goods.

Clothing is a huge category for Memorial Day sales, so now is the perfect time to freshen up your wardrobe.
At least 42% of Memorial Day sales last year were some type of clothing. Modest discounts are expected - between 30% and 40% - but some retailers will offer much larger savings. Last year Olympia Sports offered up to 80% discount on select apparel and sporting goods, and Banana Republic offered up to 75% on the entire site.

Another common discount is 70% in stores such as Nautica, Coach Outlet и Aeropostale. Other notable discounts last year were offered by retailers such as Hanes and Uniqlo - up to 60%.
