There are streets in the USA whose history (happy or sad) gave them fame and turned them into symbols of the cities in which they are located. Edition World Atlas put together a list of eight iconic American streets.

Bourbon Street, New Orleans (Louisiana)

Known for its restaurants, bars and strip clubs, Bourbon Street occupies 13 blocks in New Orleans' legendary French Quarter. The facades of the buildings here are more reminiscent of Spain or France, but not the United States. During the day, Bourbon Street is the most ordinary street, and at night it turns into a center of entertainment and fun. The most popular festival in New Orleans, Mardi Gras, takes place just on Bourbon Street: the street is filled with participants in a bright procession almost to capacity, it is simply impossible to squeeze through the crowd.

Broadway, New York (New York)

Having heard the name of this street, almost anyone in the world will say where it is and remember theaters and musicals. However, few people know that Broadway is much more than just theaters and actors. Firstly, it is not one street; Broadway in New York consists of the same name avenues, streets and boulevards. The boulevard that crosses Manhattan is the most famous part of Broadway. It is there that all the central nodes of the American theater industry are concentrated. There are 40 professional theaters created specifically for the selection of Tony Award nominees. Only performances taking place in one of these theaters can be nominated for this award.

Fifth Avenue, New York (New York)

New York's iconic Fifth Avenue is a shopaholic's paradise and one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world. The flagship stores of the most famous brands are located there: Tiffany & Co., Saks, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton… The list goes on for a very long time.

In addition to shops, Fifth Avenue is full of iconic attractions. The most striking of them is Rockefeller Center with the Top of the Rock observation deck on the 70th floor, which offers a 360-degree view of the city. The iconic street borders the well-known Central Park, and the Central Park Zoo is located at East 64th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles (CA)

This boulevard is home to the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame - over a mile (1,6 km) of sidewalks are covered with more than 2500 stars engraved with the names and handprints of famous directors, musicians, fictional characters, producers and other Hollywood celebrities. Every year, ten million people come to see this part of Hollywood Boulevard.

Another notable place on the boulevard is the Chinese Theatre. If you don’t have the time or opportunity to watch a movie premiere there, then be sure to go to the entrance to see footprints, palm prints and signatures of famous people printed on concrete. The boulevard is also home to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, and the famous Hollywood sign is more visible from this street than from any other part of Los Angeles.

Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas (NV)

Shining with bright colorful lights and luxurious casino buildings, this boulevard is instantly recognizable, even if you've only seen it in the movies. This street is full of pretentiousness and wealth and is worth seeing at least once in a lifetime.

Ocean Drive, Miami (FL)

This short (only 1,3 miles - 2 km) street is a gem on Florida's ocean coast. On one side you have the ocean, and on the other there are approximately 900 well-preserved ancient buildings. The street is famous for its retro-style buildings and signs, and is home to the home of the late world famous Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace, which has now been converted into a hotel.

Magnificent Mile, Chicago (IL)

Along this street are skyscrapers, 275 restaurants, 60 hotels, various entertainment venues and iconic landmarks. Today, the street has more than 450 shops, including high-end boutiques.

Wall Street, New York (New York)

Well, who hasn't heard of this street? The famous Wall Street is a symbol of American capitalism and big business. It stretches 0,7 miles (1,1 km) through the heart of New York City's financial district from Broadway to South Street. It is the home of the American stock market and exchange, the largest in the world. Wall Street attracts many. She is a symbol of wealth, power, but at the same time, corruption and greed. There is also the famous statue of the “Charging Bull”, whose bells tourists rub for good luck.
