The United States said it was going to “rebuild” relations with Russia
The head of the State Department press service, Heather Nauert, noted that Moscow and Washington “have many areas of mutual concern,” writes TASS.
The United States would like to “rebuild” relations with Russia, given that the two countries have many areas of mutual concern. This was stated on Thursday by the head of the State Department press service, Heather Nauert, during a regular briefing for journalists.
“This is a very complex, multi-component and complex relationship. Secretary of State [US Rex Tillerson] clearly outlined the level at which our relations are now. You may remember last year when he said that relations were at a low level,” the foreign ministry representative noted.
“We would like to rebuild these relations because we have many areas of mutual concern. One of them is the DPRK: they [Russia] signed four successful UN Security Council resolutions [implying pressure on Pyongyang],” she said. “We need more help from Russia on North Korea on the issue of denuclearization,” Nauert added.
According to her, Moscow and Washington managed to succeed in “creating a security zone in southwest Syria, where the ceasefire has been in place since July last year.”
At the same time, Nauert added, the United States will continue to put pressure on Russia in connection with the situation in Syria. “We are there (in Syria) to help people. We will continue to put pressure on the Russian government to do the right thing,” she said.
Nauert again accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons. According to her, this is happening “with the permission of Russia.” “Let me remind you that 6 times in the last 30 days, chemical weapons in one form or another have been used against the Syrian people,” the department spokeswoman said.
In this regard, the US calls on Russia to support the extension of the mandate of the new mechanism to investigate himatak in Syria.
