The United States will accelerate the issuance of work permits for medical workers

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) introduced an accelerated application processing for the issuance of work permits (EAD). This new step will benefit certain categories of EAD holders. Writes about it American Bazaar Online.

The agency announced that it will expedite EAD processing for medical personnel working in the United States. The new regulation is capable of helping many immigrants in critical areas. Expedited processing will only take place under certain conditions.

USCIS will expedite the EAD for healthcare professionals only if the EAD is expected to renew and their authorization expires within 30 days or has already expired.

“The new rule comes into effect immediately if you are a healthcare professional who has an application for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) renewal and your EAD is due to expire in a maximum of 30 days or has already expired. In such a case, you may request expedited processing,” the USCIS guidance states.

While this can be seen as a big move, given the sheer number of EAD owners who have lost their jobs due to processing delays during the pandemic, many think this will again prove to be an underdeveloped measure.

Mahesh Srikumar of Vermont, owner of the H-1B, asks, “Why does USCIS continue to be challenging by introducing categories and subcategories. It would be much easier for all EAD applications to automatically renew 180 days. ”

Some share this opinion, because they cannot understand who USCIS ranks as a medical professional.

Raja S. says: “My wife works in the laboratory. Its EAD is not pending, but we would like to know if it fits the definition of a healthcare professional or is it solely about doctors and nurses. ”

These include workers, including laboratory personnel, who conduct important clinical, biomedical and other research, development and testing required to detect COVID-19 or other diseases.

This category also includes healthcare providers, including doctors, dentists, psychologists, nurses, ambulance personnel, infection control and quality assurance personnel, as well as phlebotomists, pharmacists, physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and assistants, social workers, optometrists, chiropractors and others.

Another EAD holder, Hushi Shah, says: “Well, a long awaited step! But that solves the problem for perhaps 5 percent of those expecting an EAD. What should the rest of the 95 do? Why doesn't anyone think about them? "
