Two cats in New York became the first pet in the world to get COVID-19
Tests of two domestic cats in the US state of New York tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19, writes Interfax.
Officials from the Department of Agriculture and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the cats examined had mild respiratory symptoms. Animals are thought to have contracted the virus from people in their homes or surroundings.
According to the agency Associated Press, the owner of one of the cats had SARS about a week before his animal got sick. The owner of the second cat was confirmed COVID-19. It is noted that he has another cat, in which the symptoms of the disease are not identified.

Although coronavirus appears to be transmitted from person to animal, scientists have no evidence that animals can transmit it to humans.

“We don't want people to panic. We don't want people to be afraid of pets. There is no evidence that pets play a role in the spread of this disease to people,” said Casey Barton Behravesh, an official at the CDC.
At the same time, an official from the Department of Agriculture, Jane Rooney, told the agency that, with a limited number of available tests for coronavirus, it is recommended to test pets only when they are known to have been in contact with an infected person or exhibit symptoms of the disease.
Officials also recommended that all pet owners with a new type of coronavirus avoid close contact and wear masks while caring for them.
