US recalls Old Spice deodorants: they can provoke cancer
One of the reasons companies recall products is due to possible benzene contamination. The substance is carcinogenic, so exposure to it is dangerous for consumers. A few days ago, after Procter & Gamble (P&G) discovered benzene contamination in Old Spice and Secret deodorants, it announced a recall of these products. The publication spoke about this in more detail. BGR.
P&G announced the withdrawal via a posting on the website of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company said it is recalling all batches of specific Old Spice and Secret antiperspirant aerosol sprays with an expiration date of September 2023, as well as Old Spice Below Deck aerosol sprays. The company discovered the presence of benzene in these products, which were sold across the country.

Why benzene is dangerous
Experts at Procter & Gamble explain that benzene is a human carcinogen. Exposure to the substance by inhalation, ingestion, or through the skin can cause cancers such as leukemia, cancer of the blood, bone marrow, and blood disorders.

The company says the levels of benzene in Old Spice and Secret antiperspirants that should be withdrawn are unlikely to cause side effects.
Based on exposure simulations and cancer risk assessments published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), daily exposure to benzene in recalled products at levels found in testing is not expected to result in adverse health effects for consumers. Benzene is ubiquitous in the environment. People around the world are exposed to it from a variety of sources on a daily basis.
P&G notes that they are recalling these products for reasons of caution. In addition, the company says it has not received any reports of side effects.

What to do with P&G antiperspirants
Make sure you check the list of Old Spice and Secret deodorants included in the review. If you have them at home, you should return or dispose of them. Although P&G claims benzene levels may be safe, you should not continue to use recalled deodorants.
