Baby bottles are recalled in the US because of them the child may be poisoned with lead

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Green Sprouts has recalled about 10 baby bottles and cups over concerns that children could get lead poisoning if part of the product breaks off. NewYorkTimes.

The base of these bottles and cups made by Green Sprouts can come off and expose a solder point containing lead. This poses a potential danger to children, the commission said in a statement.

No casualties were reported, but the company is aware of seven cases of bottle breakage.

"Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects," the commission said.

Consumers should immediately take bottles away from children and throw them away.

In a statement for Green Sprouts website states: “There is a minor risk to the health and safety of users. We voluntarily assume the costs and concerns associated with this recall because the health and safety of our customers must come first.”

The lead containing point should not be accessible during normal use, so this part has not been tested in a safety lab, the company said.

“As we move closer to redesigning these products, whose benefits for keeping beverages cold safely have made them a popular choice for parents, we will ensure that lead is not used as a solder material, whether or not it is available.” , say in Green Sprouts.

The plastic and silicone lid and spout can be used with other Green Sprouts cups and bottles, the company says.

The recalled products, which were sold in aqua, green, navy and pink, are available in 6 and 8 ounce sizes. The commission said they were available at Buy Buy Baby and Whole Foods and online at Amazon, Buy Buy Baby and Bed Bath & Beyond from January 2020 to September 2022.

The commission said that Green Sprouts "contacts all known buyers directly." Those who have purchased the products can contact the company for a refund.

According to the World Health Organization, high levels of lead exposure in children can cause coma, seizures, and even death. The neurological and behavioral effects are believed to be irreversible.

"Children who survive severe lead poisoning may be left with mental retardation and behavioral problems," the statement said.
