In the United States, the deputy head of Voentorg was arrested for stealing $ 150 million from Russia
Leonid Teif, the former deputy head of the Voentorg company, and his wife were arrested in the city of Raleigh in North Carolina. They were charged with embezzling 150 millions of dollars from Russia during the conclusion of government contracts.
American prosecutors accused Teyf of creating a corruption scheme that allowed him to receive kickbacks from subcontractors who entered into contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense. The charges also relate to fraud and bribery of a public official. His wife Tatyana Teyf is also accused of money laundering, the TV channel writes.Rain«.
In addition, prosecutors believe that Leonid Teif was preparing to murder a man of Russian descent - the son of a former housekeeper, since he assumed that he had an affair with his wife. In February, Teif allegedly contacted a US law enforcement source and asked for help with the extradition of the victim to Russia. At the beginning of 2018, he paid for the murder.
The participants in the scheme used foreign banks. For money laundering, Teif and his alleged accomplices set up businesses in the United States, including an auto transport company in Illinois. Among accomplices is the Russian Alexei Timofeev, who lives in the United States, who helped set up a company in Illinois and participated in the transfer of money between accounts.
Part of the money was paid to other participants in the scheme, and part of it was transferred to Teif accounts. In just eight years, 57-year-old Teif and his 41-year-old wife Tatiana transferred about 39 million dollars to US accounts.
From the court documents it follows that Teifa, with 2012, owns four Mercedes-Benz sedans, works of art worth 2,6 million dollars and 1,6 house thousands of square meters for 5 million dollars.
Leonid Tayf faces up to 20 years in prison, the rest - up to 10 years.
