In New York, free courses were launched for immigrants who want to grow their businesses

New York's Small Business Department (SBS) 15 April announced the start of registration for new business courses for entrepreneurs, aimed at beginners and experienced immigrant businessmen.

Training will be available for more than 5 thousands of entrepreneurs, the press service of the department said.

These courses, which include Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Digital Marketing, will offer new curricula adapted to the needs of immigrants in New York. Classes will be held throughout the year in several languages, including Spanish, Chinese and Russian.

“Nearly half of the city’s small business owners are foreign-born New Yorkers, so our local economy thrives when immigrant entrepreneurs thrive. With the launch of these new courses, we are committed to ensuring that New York remains a city of opportunity for everyone,” said Gregg Bishop, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business.

“Immigrants are an important group among entrepreneurs in New York. They own 52% of the city's businesses and contributed about 2017% of the city's gross domestic product in 22,” said Bitta Mostofi, commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs.

Courses will be offered on the SBS network, consisting of seven Business Solutions Centers in New York and other partner organizations located in five districts of the city. The introduction to entrepreneurship 5 courses will help aspiring entrepreneurs to develop a business plan based on market research, organize work and conduct financial analysis. Digital marketing 6 courses will help beginner and experienced entrepreneurs to develop a marketing strategy and digital marketing tactics, including website creation, social media marketing and email marketing. The instruction will be adapted to the needs of different immigrant communities depending on the language of the course.

The curriculum will include the following:

• Terminology based on the concepts used in the respective languages;
• Lessons learned about cultural differences in customer service between immigrant home countries and New York;
• Familiar and relevant immigrant examples to illustrate business concepts.
