In New York, there is a SCRIE program that allows older people and people with disabilities to freeze the amount of rent, which protects them from further rent growth, but not many people know about it.
People who have reached the age of 62 and are living in New York in an apartment with a stabilized rent or with a controlled rent, or in a single room with a regulated rent can take part in the program. In addition, applicants for the program must be entered into the lease agreement or be the main tenant of the apartment. The total income of your household minus taxes should be no more than $ 50 000 per year.
When freezing the rent, New York will give your landlord a tax rebate on real estate equal to the amount of income not received in the future. In order to become a member of the program, it is enough to fill in the form on the website of the Department of Finance.

Но десятки тысяч людей не знают, что имеют право на участие в этой программе», — отметила она.
