In New York, the first child died of flu this season

The city of New York confirmed the first officially recorded death of a child from the flu this season. First in the city and state, second in the country: in mid-October, one child died of the disease in Florida.

A statement about this on Thursday was made by New York City Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Oxyris Barbo, writes Fox News.

The name, gender, age and area of ​​residence of the deceased child is not called. The authorities clarified only the fact that he was not eighteen years old.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last year, 900 thousands of hospitalizations and 80 thousands of deaths from influenza in the country were recorded. Of the 183 children in the United States who died of flu-related illnesses, five lived in New York.

Representatives of the city's health care system recommend that anyone who is already six months old or older be given regular flu shots.

Recall that October 15, the Florida State Department of Health (FDOH), confirmed the first flu death in Florida this season. A child who was not vaccinated against influenza died after the test was positive for influenza B.

This is the first flu-related pediatric death reported on the state this season (2018-19). The FDOH report did not indicate where the child died in Florida.

In addition, the report said that two new outbreaks of influenza or influenza-like illness (ILI) were reported in Hillsborough County. Both reported flashes occurred in a school or camp, but FDOH does not report specific locations.

FDOH says new outbreaks are expected in schools, camps, or kindergartens in the coming weeks.

2. Air travel can also trigger the disease: the air in the cabin of the aircraft circulates with the "common" microbes and viruses.
3. If you are in the same room with a person who coughs and sneezes, try to stay at least three meters away from the patient. Do not be afraid to appear impolite. Adequate people will understand your desire to protect themselves from the disease.
4. Touching the door handles, handrails in transport, money, or shaking someone's hand, try not to touch your eyes, nose, mouth - organs, where there is an open mucous membrane. Wash your hands as soon as possible.

If you do get sick, the main thing is not to let the disease take its course. Having discovered a strong weakness, chills and fever, do not postpone a visit to the doctor, especially if you are an elderly person or are at risk.
