Uzbek citizen sentenced to 15 years in prison for contacting ISIL in New York

A court in Brooklyn sentenced Uzbek citizen Abdurasul Dzhuraboev to 15 years in prison for conspiring to provide material assistance to the Islamic State terrorist organization (ISIL), сообщает US Department of Justice.
27-year-old Juraboev worked as a salad carver in a store in Brooklyn, he was part of a group of Islamists who were planning to assist ISIL. In addition to Dzhuraboev, the group consisted of five more people, all of whom were citizens of Uzbekistan.
According to the investigation, in August 2014, Juraboev published a threat on the Uzbek-language website to kill the then US President Barack Obama on behalf of ISIS. He also promised to detonate a bomb in Coney Island. In the same post, the man noted that his desire is to fight for the idea of an Islamic caliphate in Syria, but if he fails to go there due to lack of funds for travel, he is ready to become a “warrior of Islam” in the United States.
Islamist was arrested in February 2015, after he bought a plane ticket to Istanbul in December. From Turkey, he planned to move to Syria and join the militants of a terrorist organization.
Two of his accomplices, Akhror Saidakhmetov and Abror Khabibov, were found guilty of supporting ISIS in 2017. Three more suspected Islamists: Dilkhayot Kasymov, Azizhon Rakhmatov and Akmal Zakirov are awaiting trial. They are accused of providing material assistance to Juraboev and Saidakhmetov for their trip to Syria.
Islamists were arrested after a paid informant joined the group. Within five months, he collected evidence of the guilt of failed terrorists.
Since 2014 in the United States, more than 100 people have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment for contacting ISIL.
