An illegal Ukrainian was arrested in New York: he faces 15 years in prison
The Ukrainian faces 15 years of imprisonment for giving false testimony and re-entering the country after deportation, according to an investigation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) and the Professional Liability Office (OPR).
In New York on April 25, OPR special agents arrested Ukrainian Theodor Igorevich Galista. According to the complaint, he was deported 3 times to the federal authorities and each time illegally returned to the country.
In addition, Galista was accused of providing deliberately false statements about OPR agents, accusing federal officials of criminal misconduct. As the Ukrainian claims, the agents did not obey the order of the judge to deport him, instead of which he was released. Galista took this step in the hope of remaining in the United States and avoiding arrest.
If a Ukrainian is found guilty, he faces the maximum penalty of up to 5 years for false testimony and, in addition, up to 10 years in prison for illegal return to the country, and a fine of $ 250 thousand.
However, the accusations are only a statement, and Galista is considered innocent until proven guilty.
