In New Jersey, police smashed cars complaining about a resident
Two New Jersey police officers were charged with vandalism after they intentionally damaged two cars owned by a man who had filed a complaint a few days before.
29-year-old Stephen Martinsen and 26-year-old Thomas Dowling smashed windows and punctured the Jeep Liberty and Toyota Prius tires owned by Ernest Mignoli. The incident occurred early in the morning of 3 September. NY Post. During the attack, officers were dressed in civilian clothes.
According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred just a few days after Mignoli filed an administrative complaint against both police officers.
“I wouldn’t even think that police would do something like that,” Mignoli said.

Both officers were charged with conspiracy, the use of weapons for illegal actions and hooliganism.
Dowling, who had served in the police since 2015, was fired after being charged. Martinsen, who worked in the police since 2013, is temporarily suspended from work without pay.
“Such behavior will never be considered acceptable. If these charges are proven true, this represents the most significant breach of trust between law enforcement and the public,” said Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni.
