On election night, Obama asked Clinton to recognize Trump's victory
President Obama called on Hillary Clinton to yield to Donald Trump on election night, sources say The Hill.
“You have to admit,” Obama told the Democratic nominee on November 8, 2016, as the vote count began to go against her.
Clinton had hoped to the last for a turn of events after the counting of votes in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, sources said.
The campaign leader, John Podesta, was sent to inform the frustrated crowd at the Javits Center in Manhattan that Clinton would not leave until the morning and until the last vote counted.
After it was reported that Pennsylvania and Wisconsin had voted for Trump to reach 270 electoral votes, Podesta said Clinton wanted "every person in this room to know that 'your votes and your enthusiasm mean so much to her... and for all of us."
A few minutes later, perhaps influenced by Obama’s call, Clinton abandoned the race, recognizing the Republican opponent as the winner.
“Just give me the phone,” she said. - I will call him".
Trump won with 276 votes against 218 votes Clinton.
Sources said that the final figures in the states of Wisconsin and Michigan were so close that Clinton would not give in to Trump, if not for Obama's pressure.
“If anyone knew what really happened that night, no one would give in,” the source said.
Sources say that Clinton aides hoped to hold out as long as possible until the end of the counting in key states, but Obama's pressure forced Clinton to recognize the results prematurely.
As we wrote earlier, the Wisconsin Election Commission received vote count request from Jill Stein Green Party. He has already promised that similar requests will be filed in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
It is worth noting that the recount and the recognition of the victory of Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin will not change the balance of power. The state has only 10 votes in the Electoral College, and in the current situation this is not fundamental.
Jill Stein, however, insists on a recount, arguing that the voting machines used in some states were susceptible to cyber attacks and therefore could not be trusted.
The recount will include paper ballots in addition to electronic votes, the Election Commission said in a statement.
