In Colorado, a bear attacked a child in the yard

A big black bear attacked an 5-year-old girl in the backyard of a house in Colorado on Sunday, May 13.

The girl, whose name is not reported, left the house in 2: 30 in the morning, hearing the noise outside. She thought it was a backyard dog.

Then the child's mother heard a baby cry and ran out into the street to see what happened.

“When she went outside, she witnessed her daughter being dragged by a large black bear,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officials said.

She told the CPW staff that the bear threw the girl after she started screaming.

The child received serious injuries to the back and head, reports The denver channel. According to officials, she is in a stable condition in a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.

It is believed that the same bear recently penetrated into the chicken coop and ate birds. Wildlife officials set traps and track a bear with snoops. If found, the bear will be killed, because officials believe that the animal creates a threat to people.

Officials ask county residents to keep trash, pet food, and even seed for the birds inside and to report any movement of the bear until the animal is found. At the time of writing, the bear has not yet been found.

In the US, there are three types of dangerous bears: black, brown and polar. Man most of all should be wary of brown grizzly. They are found mainly in the state of Alaska and in the western regions of Canada, but there is a small population in the continental US - in Montana, in the Yellowstone area and in the western part of Washington. Also around 4000, black bears inhabit the forests of New Jersey. In 2015, in Yellowstone Park in Wyoming, where there were about 800 bears the year before, one of them had burned a park worker. Since 1990, all 67 people have died after meeting with these predators.

How to reduce the risk of meeting with a bear?

• During the walk, make noise or speak loudly. The bear has a good ear and he will definitely try to avoid contact with you.
• Try to navigate the open area so that you have an overview of the 300-500 meters ahead.
• Remove food and waste in tied cellophane bags or special containers and leave them at least 60 meters from your tourist parking lot. Even the clothes in which you cooked, for the night, it is better to take them off and put them in a bag that will be far away from you.
• Do not come near carrion and animal remains. If the bear notices you near its “prey” - the collision will not be avoided.
• Do not take gasoline and chemicals with you. Bears are very fond of the smell of gasoline: there were cases when they found crumpled or crumpled barrels of fuel in winter quarters that the bear clearly liked.
• Always look back. A bear can follow you without posing itself.
• Children should always be kept close.
