A man who stopped on the highway to help a man locked in a car, but was fatally shot point-blank, was reported by the San Diego police.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Curtis Adams. He was a full member of the navy in San Diego.
Adams drove with his girlfriend south on the freeway at Logan Heights near 2: 20 in the morning. He noticed a driver who, it seemed to him, was locked in a white vehicle, police said.
The couple decided to help and Adams was shot at point-blank range as soon as the driver got out of his car. After the shooter got into the car and disappeared.
Shortly thereafter, the California Highway Patrol warned that a similar car stopped in northern I-5 near 32-th Street, and the driver was trying to escape. The police managed to detain him.
Adams was hospitalized with a gunshot wound, but he died in the hospital.
