The number of companies that provide this opportunity is growing rapidly. According to the new review Fortune 1000 companies from research and consulting CEB, 42% of companies officially allow employees to leave on Fridays for lunch. In 2015, this indicator was at the level of 21%. Note that the rule applies to the summer period.

“This is a big leap. This service does not require large expenses from companies. Nowadays, most work processes are flexible and do not require constant presence in the office. In addition, many employees already left early on Friday. Companies that have made this process legal increase loyalty among employees,” says Brian Kropp, director of human resources at CEB.

According to him, the promotion in the form of "summer Friday" is suitable for companies with a horizontal hierarchy, where employees do not have the opportunity to get a quick promotion or a higher salary. Such promotion is easily incorporated into the structure of companies and at the same time does not violate the overall performance.

“Companies are looking for alternative mechanisms they can use to attract and reward employees,” Kropp said.

Of course, “summer Fridays” are not suitable for all employees. This incentive is unlikely to be relevant for people who receive a salary based on the number of hours worked. For some workers, the number of paid vacation days directly depends on the number of hours worked. It is also difficult to imagine the application of such a system to cashiers or people who work directly in production. “This bonus is great for office workers only,” says Kropp.
