In Chicago, three Ukrainians were poisoned with an unknown substance: two of them died

August 18 morning in Boystown near the noisy Belmont Avenue in Chicago, under brick arches, a passer-by found the bodies of two men and one woman without signs of life, reports CWBC Chicago.

Two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department were able to resuscitate the woman, who was taken to Advocate Illinois Medical Center.

The American police do not name the names of the victims and the victim, however, Oleg Benyuk wrote in Instagramthat all three victims are Ukrainians.

According to him, the tragedy occurred on the evening of August 17. 20-year-old Pavel Pitlyuk and 21-year-old Vitaly Kiyashko died, and the injured girl, 21-year-old Elvira Fedorishin. All of them are from the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

No autopsy data yet, but police believe the men died from an overdose. At the same time, Oleg Benyuk noted that his classmate, Pavel Pitlyuk, was deliberately poisoned.

According to Oleg, during the investigation it turned out that the dead met a girl who has not yet been found. And she mixed them with some kind of poison, then they were robbed, leaving neither documents nor bank cards with them.

“The worst thing is that doctors and forensic experts still cannot determine what kind of substance they were given. According to the doctors who are now actively fighting for Elvira’s life, no alcohol or drugs were found in her body, so it could be some new synthetic substance with a very strong effect, says Oleg. — Vitaly will be buried in Chicago. Pavel’s mother, Oksana Pitlyuk, his father, Nazar Pitlyuk, and his younger sister, Yana, are waiting for Pavel in Ukraine.”

Law enforcement officials believe that the incident may be related to fentanyl. If so, Ukrainian deaths could be part of a growing number of deaths in Chicago linked to this powerful synthetic opioid. According to official figures, he killed 1 people in Chicago last year.

Fentanyl is so strong that a lethal dose can be put on the tip of a pencil. And now drug dealers have begun to add it to cocaine, methamphetamine and pills.

In May, authorities found nearly 3kg of fentanyl in the trunk of a Chicago resident's car. According to the authorities, this shipment alone would have been enough to kill 1,5 million people. However, these 3 kg are just a drop in the ocean. Law enforcement officers seized 7 kg of fentanyl nationwide last year, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Among the items seized last year were 20,4 million counterfeit pills that were made to look like the popular drugs oxycodone, Xanax and Adderall.
