Postmen are often shot at in Chicago: they threatened to stop work

Chicago postal workers threatened to stop delivering mail after several employees were shot and wounded while on duty, writes Fox News.

US postal workers delivering mail to some of Chicago's more aggressive neighborhoods have threatened to end their tasks after a postal worker was injured in the southern part of the city in early September.

A 24-year-old woman was injured by multiple shots while delivering mail on 10 September. She is now in critical condition.

Police said the employee was not the target of the shooters and was caught in the crossfire. She was the second postman since March of this year to be injured in a shootout along this route. A day after the incident in South Chicago, a US Postal Service (USPS) employee was hit by a paintball.

On Friday, Sept. 18, Chicago postal workers gathered in a rally to demand that city officials eliminate the security threat to postal carriers. Mack Julion, president of the Chicago branch of the National Association of Postmen, has advised workers to stop shipping to areas where they feel unsafe.

“Any postal worker who doesn’t feel safe should not deliver mail,” Julion said. “We don’t want another situation where a mailman gets shot.”

A 24-year-old employee, injured at work earlier this month, remains in the hospital. The Chicago Office of the United States Postal Service Inspectorate is offering a $ 50 reward for shooter information.
