Belarus plans to judge the dead: for this they even created a special working group

General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus established a working group to prepare a draft law on the procedure for criminal proceedings against deceased persons involved in war crimes.

This group should develop "a mechanism for bringing to justice those Nazi criminals and their accomplices who, for a number of reasons, including those related to the policies of individual states, have not been brought to justice."

The Prosecutor General’s Office believes that after amendments to the laws “criminal trials against the punishers of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War (this is how the Russian Federation and Belarus call the period of the Second World War in which the USSR took part) will become possible.”

In 2021, the first criminal case was initiated in Belarus on the fact of “the genocide of the population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period.”

Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved said that “more than 16 people were interrogated as victims and witnesses, of which more than 7 were former prisoners of concentration camps and deported for forced labor.”

Inquiries regarding the genocide case were sent to 30 states and international organizations.

In early January 2023, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the law "On the genocide of the Belarusian people" during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period until 1951 in order to "inadmissibility of distorting the results of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the cohesion of the Belarusian society." For any public denial of the genocide of Belarusians, including on the Internet, the authorities are punished by arrest, restriction of liberty for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same period.
