In Armenia, oncological operations were made free for citizens

On January 23, Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan announced that Armenian citizens no longer have to pay for cancer operations out of their own pockets—these expenses will be borne by the state, writes “Currently,".

“Previously, the state paid only a small part of the amount,
intended to pay for the operation. It was decided to increase the amount of payment for surgical treatment of malignant tumors by introducing a co-payment method. From now on, citizens will not have to pay for oncological operations in medical institutions operating under government orders,” Torosyan said.

According to him, in this way the new authorities of Armenia are trying to remove at least some of the expenses for the treatment of cancer from the residents of the country.

“This year we have about 700 million drams (about $1,4 million) for oncological services, and we must decide what to spend this 700 million on. As a result of discussions, we came to the conclusion that we should try to ease the burden of citizens,” the minister explained.

According to him, previously the state paid for a very small number of oncological operations. And, he said, “it was illogical to call this system state-guaranteed medical care.”
