Already the third American was captured in Ukraine: they are all in the same prison in Donetsk

American crypto investor Suedi Murekezi was captured in Kherson. Friends and relatives have established that the man is in a prison in Donetsk. This is the third US citizen captured by the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine. The edition told in more detail MC.Today.

The 35-year-old man went missing in June while driving his car in search of fuel. Murekezi has been living in Ukraine for more than two years.

Relatives and friends searched for the American for more than a month and even found a video with him in pro-Russian Telegram channels a few days after his disappearance. The video shows Murekezi in a dark room. In the video, he looks upset, ordered to repeat words in Russian that glorify the Russian army.

On July 7, Murekezi phoned his brother and told him that he was in a prison in Donetsk.

The US citizen said he was in the same prison as Alexander Dryuke and Andy Tai Ngoc Hyun - two more Americans captured by the Russians.

Unlike other prisoners, according to relatives, the US citizen Murekezi did not participate in the hostilities in Ukraine.

Murekezi told his brother by phone that he had been falsely accused of participating in the Ukrainian protests.

“They are using him as a pawn for their propaganda purposes,” explained the crypto investor’s brother Sele Murekezi.

Relatives fear for the man's condition because of the color of his skin.

“The fact that he is black, of course, increases our fears. Racism may play a role,” they worry.

A US State Department spokesman said the department was aware of Murekezi's detention, but declined to comment further due to privacy concerns. His family is in daily contact with the State Department regarding this situation.

Murekezi was born in Rwanda in 1985 but fled the country with his family after the 1994 genocide by emigrating to Minnesota. He started visiting Ukraine for work in 2017 and started living here in 2020.
