USCIS Extends Immigration Medical Examination Certificate

Effective August 12, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is temporarily extending Form I-693 Medical Examination Report and Vaccination Records from two to four years due to delays in processing applications related to COVID-19. This is reported on the website USCIS.

USCIS may consider a completed Form I-693 valid if:

• The physician's signature is dated no more than 60 days before the applicant filed Form I-485, Application for Permanent Residence Registration or Change of Status;
• no more than four years have passed since the date the doctor signed the form;
• the decision on Form I-485 of the applicant was issued no later than September 30, 2021.

“We are making this temporary change because COVID-19 has caused processing delays and impacted applicants' ability to complete required immigration medical examinations. We previously believed that a completed Form I-693 would remain valid for two years after the date of signature,” the department explained.

USCIS is now considering even more status adjustment applications than in FY2005.

“The Service is prioritizing adjustments to employment-based status applications at every stage of processing and review during this fiscal year. We continue to make processing and resource allocation decisions to expedite processing and limit the potential for unused employment-related visa numbers,” USCIS said.
