The Hurricane Warning Center reported threatening surges with devastating waves. This threat prompted local authorities to declare the mandatory evacuation of Lake Charles, Louisiana, with a population of 78 people, a significant part of which may be flooded.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced that he has deployed the full resources of the Louisiana National Guard to help recover from the storm.
