Murder and intimidation: as a gang of MS-13 terrorizing Queens

Arrogant murder in the middle of the day on a crowded platform in the subway, ominous graffiti on an office building politician and the emergence of rival groups showing their cruel street justice show that the notorious MC-13 gang is expanding its presence in one of the most densely populated areas of New York.

It is well known that the gangster grouping again found itself in the headlines this week after the arrest of suspected member Ramiro “Karamalo” Gutierrez, accused of killing 20-year-old Abel Mosso, who, according to the authorities, belonged to a rival gang on 18 st. Gutierrez, an 26-year-old citizen of El Salvador, is in the US illegally, an immigration and customs officer told Fox News.

And if the weekend's loud murder was not enough to announce the presence of MS-13 in the area, the gang members apparently also decided to figure it out. Francisco Moya, a member of the city council of the Democrats, representing the area in which the subway was shot, turned to Facebook to accuse the gang of the MS-13 spray on his office building at the weekend.

“If intimidation is the goal of MS-13, and its members resort to gun violence, or when they write the gang's name in our neighborhoods — as they did at my district office this weekend — they will fail,” he wrote. “We are stronger than any meaningless display of power.”

Gutierrez and the man he accuses of the murder are familiar to the police. During the shooting on Sunday, Gutierrez was already awaiting trial on several charges after he was detained during the raids of the ICE-13 migration agents in December of 2018.

Mosso, the newspaper added, was arrested seven times, and the police on Wednesday were still not sure why the two alleged rivals decided to meet on Sunday.

“We have comments from witnesses that MS-13 was mentioned,” Shea told the Daily News. — Someone was shouting something about MS-13. This will need to be checked."

During the December verification, which, according to ICE, was part of a joint effort with New York City police and the Queens District Attorney’s Office, Gutierrez and 11 of other suspected MS-13 members were arrested “on various charges, including attempted murder and conspiracy, in addition to drugs and arms charges. The federal agency accused the detainees of “conspiring to kill a rival gang member and planning the execution of a man who left the MS-13 gang,” and also noted that investigators had discovered the caches of weapons and drugs during the raid.

One of the indictments related to this raid revealed that Gutierrez and two of his accomplices allegedly conspired to rob a house in Queens where, in their opinion, 80 000 was hidden.

Another indictment says that the investigators, through wiretapping of telephone conversations, learned that the alleged MS-13 member Jorge “Horrible” Andrade and six others planned to kill someone from the “Latin Kings” gang with a baseball bat. This was reportedly to be retribution for the June 2018 shooting near a bar in Queens, which injured two MS-13 members.

The third indictment, according to ICE, indicated that "when Andrade and the other members of the MC-13 gang found out that one of them disguised their distinctive MS-13 tattoo and separated themselves from the gang, they planned to kill him."

Other arrests during the stripping included a couple of alleged MS-13 members accused of having beaten two people with a metal pipe in September 2018.

Police detained five people, including an 13-year-old girl and an 15-year-old boy, after Jan Cruz's 23-year-old was found dead at Bayswater Point in Far Rockaway.

The court documents cited by the media said that Cruz had been repeatedly shot in the head and found only in socks and underwear. Police said the killing may be related to MS-13, and one report says investigators believe that Cruise might have been lured to the park.

The Far Rockaway neighborhood is one of the easternmost points of Queens and borders Long Island, part of southeastern New York that has long been considered an MS-13 stronghold in the state.

But the ongoing repression of the administrations of New York and Trump against MS-13 caused significant damage to the gang.

ICE also reports that the U.S. deported 1332 MS-13 members during fiscal year 2018—a 24 percent increase from the year before.

However, the fight against the gang seems to end not soon. Trump even mentioned shooting on the subway platform this week in his address to Congress on Tuesday evening.

“The MS-13 gang is now operating in at least 20 different American states, and almost all of them are located across our southern border,” the president said. — Just yesterday, an MS-13 gang member was arrested in a fatal shooting on a subway platform in New York City. We are deporting these gang members by the thousands, but until we secure our border, they will keep coming back.”
