Spouses of visa holders H-1B want to ban work
The administration of President Donald Trump proposes to abolish the right of the spouse holder H-1B to work in the United States. This is stated in a statement by the Ministry of National Security, writes CNN.
This rule will apply to spouses of those foreign nationals who are highly qualified specialists. In February 2015, the administration of Barack Obama allowed the spouses of such migrants to legally seek employment in the United States in order to “reduce the economic burden and personal stresses” for highly skilled immigrants.
The Trump administration also wants to revise the rules for issuing H-1B and possibly tighten them up to “really get better foreign nationals.” It is planned to revise the list of professions that are eligible to participate in the program.
The department did not explain the reasons why they decided to cancel this rule, only indicated that they were acting under the presidential order “buy American, hire Americans.”
The H-1B visa is drawn and issued based on a lottery - on average, about 65 thousand foreign specialists per year become “winners”. This program is most popular among employers in the IT industry (about 1% of employees work on an H-15B visa Facebook).
