The US will have the largest team at the Olympics in Rio

For the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio, the largest delegation will be sent by the US team. This is the first time since 2004, when the Summer Olympics were held in Athens, Greece. Currently, 555 athletes have passed qualifications, reports NBC Sports.

Team USA has significantly more athletes than its main competitor, China (416 athletes), and its hosts, Brazil (462 athletes).

In 2012, the British hosts sent 541 athletes to London, while the US sent 530. In 2008, the Chinese hosts sent 639 athletes to Beijing, while the US sent 596.

The second time in the history of the number of women (292) in the national team more than men (263).

Shooter Kim Road for the seventh time will go to the Olympics. She also has a chance to become the second athlete in history, who won medals at six Olympics in a row. Such a record could be realized only by the Italian luger Armin Tsoggeler.

The oldest athlete turns 52 of the year, and the youngest is 16. For the first time since 1948, the US team at the Summer Olympics has no athlete younger than 16 years.
