Tropical storm creates around Texas and New York in a vortex ring
Despite the fact that tropical storm Bill has not caused significant damage to the southern regions of the United States over the past 24 hours, there is no reason to relax yet. Forecasters say this hurricane looks like a "wild beast." Meteorologists say the Bill could create a vortex ring around Houston, St. Louis and New York within a week.
As stated by Marshall Shepherd, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Georgia, the arrival of Tropical Hurricane Bill is accompanied by the “brown ocean” phenomenon. “While tropical storms typically gain strength from warm ocean water and weaken as they move toward land, NASA research shows that some storms may be strengthened on land by evaporating moisture from abundant soil. This is what is called the brown ocean,” the expert noted. Since May was a record wet month for this region, all the conditions are present for this phenomenon to occur.
The National Weather Service expects the Bill to bring about 15 to 25 centimeters of rain over the next seven days - the equivalent of months of rain. Partial evacuations are underway in Texas. All residents of low-lying areas are being asked to move to higher areas due to the threat of flooding.
