XNUMX-year-old boy dies after visiting dentist in Kansas: no one knows the reason

A Kansas mother is looking for answers after her XNUMX-year-old son died after a routine dental procedure. The edition told in more detail Pix11.

Nancy Valenzuela, a Scott City mother of three, said she took her son, Abiel Valenzuela Zapata, to Tiny Teeth Pediatrics dentistry because he needed to have his teeth removed after a gum infection. She said she thought it would be a simple procedure.

“We didn’t expect to leave there without a baby,” Valenzuela said.

Abiel, who was only a month away from turning 4, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, after being rushed to Wichita hospital.

Valenzuela said that after visiting two dental offices in southwestern Kansas, she was told that her son needed to have his teeth removed. She said that he was fine before he underwent surgery. She said he cried when he needed an injection, but she reassured him.

“I told him, ‘Everything will be fine,’” the mother said.

Wichita police later answered the emergency call at the dental office and filed an incident report.

According to the report, the anesthesiologist said Abiel felt normal for about 30 minutes under the sedative. The document said that when the doctor worked on the line of the boy's lower jaw, his cheek was swollen and his pulse slowed down.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started, shortly thereafter, the boy was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

According to the report, the doctor said he had never seen anything like this in his entire career, especially in non-allergic people.

Valenzuela said she was unaware that the office emergency was for her son until he was brought to an ambulance.

“As a mother, you feel like you failed him because you didn't do anything to protect him,” she said. “I really thought I made the right choice.”

“There was nothing I could do for him, but I will investigate. This is the only thing I can do and get attention,” she said.

She said it was difficult for her other children, including her older brother Abiel.

“Later that night I asked him where his brother was and he pointed to him and said God bless him,” she said.

She said the family will have to live with it every day.

“He’s in a better place now, he was so young and we loved him so much,” Valenzuela said.

Valenzuela said she didn’t know what happened during the procedure, but wanted to know what was written in the coroner's report.

Police officer Trevor Macy said there is currently no criminal investigation underway.

The family opened a fundraiser for the funeral on the portal GoFundMe.
