Comedian John Melendez called the White House and, posing as New Democratic Senator from Bob Menendez, asked for a conversation with the president.

Two hours later, he was called back by Donald Trump, who, during the conversation, did not recognize the comedian, with whom he had already spoken several times, writes “Voice of America".

Melendez, who is known as Stuttering John, said that he had been talking to the president for about three minutes and hadn’t admitted to Trump that he was not Senator Menendez.

According to the comedian, before that he spoke with Donald Trump at least 20 once on his Howard Stern Radio Show, so it was difficult for him to believe that the president did not recognize him by his voice.

“I spoke with my Long Island accent,” the comedian said.

During the conversation, Trump, thinking that he had called Menendez, congratulated him on the termination of the corruption trial in which the democrat senator was suspected by the federal authorities.

Trump also touched upon the topic of cooperation on immigration law, to which the comedian replied: “I am Latinos”.

Later, Meléndez admitted that if he had been asked which party was represented by Senator Menendez or from which state he was, he would not have been able to answer these questions.

“But no one asked me about this,” he noted.

A spokesman for the White House, commenting on the situation, said that the president was trying to “be accessible to members” of Congress and that sometimes “similar mistakes happen” because of this.
