Trump threatened Latin American countries with cessation of aid due to a caravan of migrants

US President Donald Trump warned Latin American countries that his administration would stop all assistance to the country if it did not stop a large caravan of migrants heading for the southern border of the United States. The New York Post.

“The United States has strongly informed the President of Honduras that unless the large caravan of people traveling to the United States is stopped and returned to Honduras, no more money or other assistance will be provided to Honduras,” Trump tweeted on October 16.

Later, the head of the United States wrote that the country sent similar warnings to the governments of Guatemala and El Salvador, through which the caravan must pass. They were told that if they allowed their citizens or residents of other countries to cross their territory on the way to the American border in order to cross it illegally, then any financial assistance to them would be terminated.

A group of about 2000 immigrants, mostly from Honduras, arrived on the Guatemalan border on October 15, and around 100, law enforcement officers attempted to turn people back because they did not have documents to enter Guatemala.

As a result, immigrants pushed through the border guards and went to Guatemala.

Mexican immigration officials told migrants that they would have to meet the requirements for entry into the country or they would not be allowed into Mexican territory.

Migrants said they fled violence and poverty in Honduras. Participant of the procession Kailin Umana, finding in the second month of pregnancy, she said that she and her unborn child were threatened with death.

“We are not criminals - we are migrants,” she said.

In April, a large group of several thousand migrants from Central America also went to the United States to seek asylum. But along the way, many separated themselves from them, and as a result several hundred people reached the American border.
