Trump plans to abandon nuclear weapons: what to expect from Russia and China
He believes that Russia and China should do the same.
Donald Trump, commenting on the meeting between Putin and Kim Jong-un, said that the United States, Russia and China should get rid of nuclear weapons. He said this in a telephone interview with Fox News.
We want to get rid of nuclear weapons, we all have to. Russia must get rid of him, China must get rid of him.

The Washington Post and CNN, citing the White House administration, said Trump plans to draft a nuclear weapons control agreement with Russia and China. "The President made it clear that, in his opinion, arms control should be carried out with the participation of Russia and China and should include all types of weapons, warheads and missiles," quotes the words of his interlocutor.
A trilateral arms control agreement between the United States, Russia and China would be a landmark diplomatic achievement, although individual agreements would also be significant, notes “Voice of America"with reference to the Washington Post.
Trump outlined his goal in anticipation of the upcoming trade talks at the White House with Vice Premier Liu He. According to the president, after the conclusion of a trade agreement with Beijing, Washington should conclude an agreement on reducing military spending.
“In the aggregate, Russia, China and we produce weapons, including nuclear weapons, worth hundreds of billions of dollars. It's ridiculous, said Trump. - And I would say that China will agree, and Russia too. That we do it is unreasonable. ”
Both Russia, China and the United States are now developing their nuclear arsenals, and the last major agreement between Russia and the United States, START III, expires in 2021.
The agreement provides for restrictions in the area of strategic nuclear platforms, such as bombers, submarines and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
However, according to the Washington Post, the administration is concerned about a wide arsenal of small and highly maneuverable nuclear weapons, which Russia already has or is in development. The United States does not have such weapons in such quantities.

These types of weapons, which are called tactical, are not covered by START III.
As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee 10 in April, Trump made it clear that if Washington succeeds in developing a “good and reliable” arms control agreement with Russia to replace START III, Washington will agree.
According to Pompeo, China should be included in the new version of the agreement, but this will be difficult to do.
“It may happen that we will not succeed,” the state secretary admitted. “Perhaps in the end we will work on this only with Russia.”
The initiative is at an early stage: representatives of the administration are only preparing possible options for implementing Trump's decree, the newspaper said. It is unclear whether it will bring any results, given the complex relations of the administration with Moscow and Beijing, as well as the fact that Trump has less than two years to go.
There are doubts that China is generally interested in arms control talks. Beijing has long avoided participation in such agreements, in part because its arsenal of nuclear weapons lags behind the US.
