Top 5 states with the most expensive kindergartens in the US
The US capital Washington tops the list of regions in terms of the high cost of child care for preschool children. The study, conducted by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), took into account prices for the most expensive segment - care for newborns (from a few months of age), and in parallel - for children 4 years old.
The average cost of newborn care in Washington is more than 22 thousand dollars per year ($1886 monthly), for 4-year-old children - almost $18 thousand ($ 1487 per month).
Following the capital are the states of Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York and Maryland. In these states and a number of others, the cost of child care is reportedly sometimes higher than the cost of paying for college.
The authors of the study are calling on the authorities to carry out reforms, because, according to them, childcare services are not available to many American families. For example, an average family from Massachusetts will need to allocate a fifth of their annual earnings to care for a newborn.
Top 5 (care for newborn / children 4 years):
1. Washington, DC - $ 22/ $ 17 842
2. Massachusetts - $ 17/ $ 12 781
3. Minnesota - $ 14 366 / $ 11 119
4. New York - $ 14/ $ 11 700
5. Maryland - $ 13/ $ 9 100
