Court in Russia decides to dissolve local council whose deputies demanded Putin's resignation
The Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg satisfied the demand of the prosecutor's office on the possibility of dissolving the council of the Smolninskoye municipality, whose deputies had previously proposed to remove Russian President Vladimir Putin from office, reports Meduza.
The St. Petersburg prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit demanding the dissolution of the council of deputies as early as 2021, under the pretext that the council had not met for more than three months. For almost a year, the proceedings practically did not move, but as soon as the deputies decided to ask the State Duma to impeach the president, the case was launched.
Now that the court has acknowledged that the council of the municipality has been inactive for three months, the governor of St. Petersburg may dissolve it.

On September 7, the council of deputies of Smolninsky decided to call on the State Duma to bring charges of treason against Putin in order to remove him from office - according to the deputies, “young able-bodied” citizens of Russia are dying in Ukraine because of the war launched by the president, the Russian economy is suffering, NATO is expanding to the east, and Ukraine receives new weapons. Soon, seven St. Petersburg deputies were summoned to the police, where protocols were drawn up against five of them on “discrediting” the current government.
