Houston residents arrested for debt on educational loans
An education scandal has broken out in the city of Houston. A former student and US resident, Paul Acker, was arrested there. The publication writes about this fusion.net.
The man was accused of not paying the student loan, which he took almost 30 years ago. Last week, US Marshall Service officers broke into Aker's house. So called in America, people who perform the duties of bailiffs. During the arrest, Aker did not resist.
According to journalists, the US Marshals Service is currently considering several more similar cases.
“The court transmits information about debtors specifically to the US Marshals. They do everything they can to warn the person that they need to appear in court. If he doesn’t do this, they proceed to detain him,” service employee Nikki Credick-Barrett told reporters.
Only in Houston one shortly, marshals should arrest former or current students around 10. The number of debtors across the country can only be guessed. But it seems that we are talking about hundreds of violators.
The National Center for Consumer Law said that such cases are not uncommon. Center staff warn all students. If you received a subpoena, then you should not ignore it. In the education department of Houston, they have so far refrained from commenting.
