On Monday, the total number of people infected with coronavirus in the world since the beginning of the pandemic reached 250 million people, more than 5 million have died.
A sharp jump in the incidence has recently been observed in the countries of Eastern Europe.

Meanwhile, the United States is opening its borders to people who have been fully vaccinated with one of the approved drugs, but the Russian Sputnik V does not apply to such vaccines.

According to Reuters, an average of 90 million people in the world are infected every 50 days.

For comparison, about 50 million cases were recorded during the entire first year of the pandemic. Scientists still cite the more contagious Delta strain as the main reason for the rapid spread of the disease.

At the same time, in most developed countries with a well-established vaccination campaign, the average daily number of covid cases fell by about 35%.

The epicenter of Covid-19 is in Europe

More than half of all new cases of the disease occur in Europe.

The daily number of infections in Russia, Greece and Ukraine has equalized or is approaching the highest rates recorded at the beginning of the pandemic. A sharp jump in the incidence has also been noted in Germany.

Many world leaders are calling on WHO and pharmaceutical firms to make vaccines more affordable in poor and developing countries. By some estimates, half of the world's population has not yet received even the first dose of the vaccine.

In turn, WHO appealed to the G23,4 countries to allocate $XNUMX billion to provide poor countries with vaccines, tests and a range of medicines throughout the year.

Vaccination will also be at the forefront of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) virtual summit, which opens this week under the chairmanship of New Zealand.

USA opens borders

Starting Monday, the United States will open entry to international travelers who have received a full coronavirus vaccination with internationally recognized drugs. The Russian vaccine Sputnik V is not yet included in the list of approved vaccines.

The World Health Organization has not yet officially recommended Sputnik V for use, the certification process is still ongoing.

Russian politicians have previously called it “vaccine discrimination,” citing political reasons for the delays.

International experts explain them by technical reasons, in particular, by the fact that the Russian side was unable to provide the necessary information on time.

It is noteworthy that at the peak of the pandemic, Russians vaccinated by Sputnik V were allowed into the United States: in 2019, about 300 thousand Russian citizens visited the country (however, all of them had to prove the importance of the reason for the trip).

Later, the American authorities refused to recognize Sputnik V as an effective vaccine, citing the fact that the drug was not certified by WHO.

The ban on foreigners visiting the United States, introduced by the Donald Trump administration, lasted almost two years - from March 2020. Citizens of China, where the spread of coronavirus began, were banned from entering even earlier.

Following the announcement of the lifting date, hundreds of thousands of people have booked flights and hotels in the United States, according to representatives of various airlines and travel agencies around the world.

In addition to the vaccination passport, tourists must present a negative result of a PCR test taken 72 hours before the flight. They are also required to provide full contact information for the case tracking system. No quarantine is required upon arrival in the United States.

American authorities say that access to the country will be open to those who have been vaccinated with drugs approved by the US administration or WHO.

This means that those who have received one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of such vaccines will be able to enter:

• Pfizer BioNTech
• Modern
• AstraZeneca
• Covaxine
• covishield
• BIBP / Sinopharm
• A nephew

Americans were also unable to visit other countries for a long time, but restrictions on them were lifted much earlier.

For example, EU countries lifted the ban on arrivals from the United States back in June, and Britain lifted the ban on flights from the United States in late July.

The US land borders with Canada and Mexico will also be open to the fully vaccinated.

It is reported that in some sections of the Mexican border, thousands of people have already been seen intending to take advantage of the exemptions.

Thousands of Mexican families were divided during the pandemic. However, many may face a problem, since in Mexico (and also in a number of Latin American countries) part of the population was vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V.
