Immigration caught the most wanted illegal in the US
US immigration and customs officers responsible for enforcing deportation orders on Wednesday arrested one of the most elusive fugitives, for which a special operation was carried out in central Louisiana. The man, who is a previously convicted criminal and a child molester, this time received a series of additional charges.
José Melhor Martinez, also known as José Luis Martínez-Sanchez, a Mexican citizen illegally present in the United States, was arrested Wednesday morning by the Emergency Task Force in New Orleans after receiving a federal warrant for his arrest at a residence in Church Point, Louisiana, writes Breaking911.
Martinez was convicted of misconduct against a child in 2002, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Following his release from custody, ICE deported a man from the United States to Mexico in September 2003.
The offender illegally re-entered the United States after the deportation, which is a criminal offense in accordance with federal law. Martinez was registered by local law enforcement in Acadia, where he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was convicted on April 30 and sentenced to probation.
Then the deportation team began searching for Martinez, having learned of his return to the United States. The agency received a federal arrest warrant in the Western District of Louisiana for illegally returning a previously deported criminal to the country.
After completing ICE's processing on Wednesday, Martinez was transferred to the custody of the US Federal Marshals Service, where he remains awaiting federal criminal proceedings in the Western District of Louisiana.
“This case is an excellent example of ICE's ongoing focus on prioritizing enforcement efforts against foreign nationals who are unlawfully present in the United States and pose the greatest threat to public safety,” Trey Lund, ICE deportation officer in New Orleans, said in a statement.
"Despite some attempts to mislead the public, ICE does not conduct random or indiscriminate coercive actions, and the targeted efforts of the agency’s law enforcement agencies make communities safer for all individuals, regardless of their immigration status, by removing dangerous criminals from the streets."
