Kebabs, beer and a CIA agent: the trailer for the Russian version of 'Chernobyl' was smashed on the web

An unofficial trailer for the Russian TV series “Chernobyl” has been posted on YouTube. And almost immediately it was removed due to the uproar. Unlike the HBO series of the same name, the main storyline in it was the confrontation between an American spy and a Soviet counterintelligence agent.

The trailer appeared on Youtube July 24. It was published on the channel of actor Igor Petrenko, who played the main role in the film, writes Air force. True, the trailer was removed a day later, but many managed to see it.

The release of the trailer was not announced by either the Amalgama studio, which is producing the series, or the NTV channel, which is going to show it.

In the comments on the channel of Alexander Malkov, who also posted the trailer, users responded to the upcoming new product of the company Amalgama Studio, notes Lenta.ru report.

The NTV television channel warned bloggers who published the trailer for the Chernobyl series, which will be released in 2019, about copyright infringement. Reports the TJ edition about it, which also received the complaint, notes Lenta.ru report.

It is noted that the channel considers the trailer "working material" and opposes its distribution. According to TJ, NTV also threatened to file for publication in court if the video was not removed.

“The series is about how everything really happened”

The director of the series, Alexey Muradov, previously stated that the film would tell about “what really happened then.”

“The idea for the film appeared five years ago. Our story will cover several periods: a few hours before the explosion, the explosion itself and several months after it. We will tell you in sufficient detail what happened. About human destinies first of all. The project will have many dramatic and tragic lines,” said Muradov.

He also stated that “there is a theory according to which the Americans infiltrated the Chernobyl plant.”

“Many historians do not rule out that on the day of the explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, a foreign intelligence agent was working at the station,” added Muradov.

Filming began in Belarus about a year ago. Ribbon events unfold from April to December 1986. In the story, the department of the KGB of the USSR learns about the interest that foreign intelligence services show to the Chernobyl station.

Judging by the trailer, actor Igor Petrenko plays a KGB agent Andrei Nikolaev, a counterintelligence worker who has problems in his personal life. He is opposed by Albert Lenz, an agent of Western intelligence agencies. He played the actor Dmitry Ulyanov.

“Lenz is a CIA employee who was exiled to the Chernobyl zone to conduct sabotage work there. But when he got to the site of the nuclear power plant, he saw something that changed his worldview completely,” Ulyanov said about the series.

The Hollywood Reporter edition previously reported that the Russian Ministry of Culture has allocated for the shooting of the series around 30 000 000 rubles.
