North Korea declared itself a nuclear power and threatened the US with a preemptive strike
North Korea has finally declared itself a nuclear power and enacted a law allowing it to carry out a preventive nuclear strike. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said that this makes the country's nuclear status "irreversible" and prohibits any negotiations on nuclear disarmament. This is reported Ukrainian Truth.
Meduza writes that the law names nuclear weapons as the main weapon of the DPRK, which is under the command of Kim Jong-un, and lists the cases in which nuclear forces will be used:
- if the DPRK is attacked by a nuclear or other weapon of mass destruction, and the DPRK considers the threat of such an attack to be imminent;
- in the event of an attack (or the inevitability of an attack, according to the DPRK) on the leadership of the state and the leaders of the command of nuclear forces;
- in the event of an attack (or the inevitability of an attack, according to the DPRK) on important strategic facilities of the country;
- if it is necessary to prevent the expansion and prolongation of the war, to take the initiative in the war;
- in the event of other circumstances causing "a catastrophic crisis for the existence of the country, the security of the life of the people."
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said his country will never give up nuclear weapons and missiles needed to counter the United States, which he accused of conducting a pressure campaign to weaken North Korea's defenses and eventually overthrow his government.

The DPRK promises not to place nuclear weapons on the territory of other countries and not to use them against non-nuclear countries, if they do not participate in the aggression against North Korea together with nuclear states.
Kim Jong Un made the comments during a speech in the North Korean parliament, where MPs passed a law allowing the North Korean military to "automatically" launch preventive nuclear strikes against enemy forces.

He criticized South Korea for its plans to expand its conventional strike capabilities and resume large-scale military exercises with the United States to counter growing threats from North Korea, calling them a "dangerous" military action that raises tensions.
In recent months, Kim Jong Un has been expressing increasingly provocative threats of nuclear conflict against the United States and its allies in Asia, and has warned that North Korea will actively use its nuclear weapons if threatened.
