A family from Virginia found a bag with a million dollars on the road

A Virginia family, tired of being self-isolated during the coronavirus pandemic, decided to go on a road trip last Saturday, May 16th. On the way, they came across two bags, which contained a considerable amount of money - about a million dollars, he writes Fox News.

In this almost Hollywood plot twist, David and Emily Shants from Caroline County found bags lying in the middle of the street while driving in a car with their children. A family pickup truck drove through something that they mistook for trash. But after the car stopped, the couple found out that under the wheels there were bags similar to mail bags.

The family decided to take them home and try to find the owner or transfer to the police. Only when they were at home did the husband and wife open the bags and find that they were literally full of cash.

"There were plastic bags inside the bags and they had something written on them that looked like 'cash vault,'" David Schantz said.

Having made an unexpected discovery, the family turned to the district sheriff's office.

“We couldn’t keep something that didn’t belong to us,” Emily said.

Policemen came to their home, conducted an inventory of money and a full account of the contents of the bags.

Caroline County Sheriff Scott Moser said authorities determined where the money should go, but police are reportedly still trying to figure out how the bags got on the road.

Moser did not give any more details, but said that the recipients should have given the Shants a financial reward for their efforts.

“Their actions deserve it,” he said. “They saved someone a lot of money and set a great example for everyone else.”
