Celine Dion canceled upcoming concerts due to illness: she may not return to the stage

Celine Dion has announced the cancellation of her Courage World Tou shows until 2024 and will "probably never tour again," a source close to the singer said. Writes about it CNN.

“I’m very sorry to disappoint you all again,” the singer said in an announcement on social networks. “I'm working very hard to regain my strength, but touring can be very difficult, even when you're full of energy. It's not fair to you to continue to postpone shows, and although it breaks my heart, it's best if we cancel everything now until I'm truly ready to get back on stage again. I want you all to know that I am not giving up and I can’t wait to see you again.”

Dion postponed several performances in December 2022 after announcing that she had been diagnosed with rigidity syndrome, a condition she says prevents her from "singing the way I used to."

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the condition is "a rare progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, especially the brain and spinal cord."

“Even though we're just learning about this rare disease, we now know for sure: it's what's causing all my cramps,” Dion said. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life. Sometimes it makes walking difficult and doesn't allow me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to."

Money for tickets to the singer's concerts will be returned at the place of purchase.

Stiffness syndrome is a neurological and autoimmune disorder in which muscles gradually tighten, causing painful and debilitating spasms. In more extreme forms, it can interfere with people's ability to walk or carry out activities of daily living, writes UNNO.

According to the U.S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), loud noises or emotional stress can cause spasms, causing people with the syndrome to fall and injure themselves, causing some to be "afraid to leave the house."

It is incurable, but symptoms can be controlled and relieved with medication. Experts don't know what causes the illness, according to NINDS. It usually affects women more than men. It only affects about 1 in a million people.
